Welcome to Action Old Kilpatrick

Enhancing the environment and celebrating the heritage of Old Kilpatrick

Old Kilpatrick is a very special place. Not only does it nestle between the Kilpatrick Hills and the River Clyde, with the canal on the doorstep and Loch Lomond just a short distance away, but it also has a rich cultural place in history as the former site of a Roman fort, and as a riverside location for diverse industries over the centuries.

Following a series of public meetings in early 2015, Action Old Kilpatrick (AOK) was set up by local residents of Old Kilpatrick who love, and want to protect and support the village. We have three subgroups: environment, horticulture and history & heritage.

Support us!

Become a member of AOK

AOK members are all volunteers who donate their time, skills and knowledge to improve the village and its heritage and environment. Anybody, whether they live in Old Kilpatrick or not, can join and get involved in a range of activities.

As a member, you’ll get regular updates and newsletters, can join in with our activities and attend meetings (members have voting rights at the AGM as well as the ability to suggest what projects we take on), help us plan events and take part in training.

What we do

Horticulture

The Horticulture Group have the use of a greenhouse in Old Dalnottar Cemetery for growing plants and flowers for the village (planters, hanging baskets). We maintain planting sites and provide activities for local residents and training for members.

Environment

The Environment Group organises regular litter pick in the Saltings, Lusset Glen and in and around the village. We work with the Horticulture group to create and maintain planting sites, signage and play and seating areas.

History and Heritage

Raising awarenss of the rich history and heritage of Old Kilpatrick is the main ocums of this group. The first big project we are undertaking is recording local oral history by interviewing volunteers, many of whom have lived in the village for decades (more information on the "A Walk Through the Past" webpage).

AOK Committee

A committee made up of volunteers oversees the work of the subgroups, secures funding and manages projects and marketing of AOK. We work with the West Dunbartonshire Council and other partners to improve the village of Old Kilpatrick.

Join Action Old Kilpatrick!

Anyone can join Action Old Kilpatrick – we want to involve as many residents as possible whether you wish to join in just occasionally, or on a more regular basis.
