Press release: A Walk Through the Past

Sharing Heritage: Action Old Kilpatrick celebrates £7500 Heritage Lottery Fund grant for its project ‘A Walk Through The Past; Memories of Old Kilpatrick, 1940s to the present day’

Wonderful news has been received by Action Old Kilpatrick (AOK) who have been informed that their Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Sharing Heritage 1 application has been successful. This means that AOK will receive a grant from the HLF for the sum of £7,500 to undertake their exciting project called “A Walk Through The Past; Memories of Old Kilpatrick, 1940s to the present day”. The project, led by the AOK volunteers, will create two new local audio walks, a website and an illustrated publication based on the history and heritage of Old Kilpatrick.

AOK is a community group of enthusiastic local volunteers who are actively interested in enhancing the environment and celebrating the heritage of Old Kilpatrick, West Dunbartonshire. They are aware that the village has a significant heritage which is linked to its industrial, agricultural, commercial, social and environmental history. Now, the AOK volunteers want the community to join them in fully researching that history and heritage. To do so they will be using traditional research methods but this task also presents an opportunity to learn and develop new skills in digitally recording and editing the unique memories people have of their experiences of living, working and playing in the area. Therefore, whether your interests are in reading, writing or talking about the past this project presents an opportunity for all of the community to get involved.

Commenting on the award, Susanne Hall, Co-ordinator of the AOK History & Heritage Group said: “The group are absolutely delighted with this grant award. We love where we live and know that there’s so much more to discover about our past. We are keen to get started and have arranged an information afternoon on Saturday 25 th March in the Napier Hall, 3.00 – 5.00pm. If you would like to find out more or would like to take part, please join us then; or contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Lucy Casot, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Scotland, said: “A Walk Through The Past: Memories of Old Kilpatrick, 1940s to the present day” is a fine example of HLF’s Sharing Heritage programme that, thanks to National Lottery players, makes it possible for local people to choose what is important to them, what they want to save, and how they want to spread the word throughout their community.”
